WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS – The New Orleans Saints have marched their way into Greenbrier County.
The first day of their NFL training camp opened Friday morning and excited fans of the black and gold lined the field hoping for a glimpse of their favorite players.
Dozens of loyal Saints fans hung around after the first day of training camp ended here at The Greenbrier. Star of the afternoon was easily Drew Brees who everyone was after to get that precious autograph. Newswatch spoke to a few lucky fans that had the honor of meeting their starting quarterback
“Got Drew Brees to sign our Saints flag and I’m just tickled,” says New Orleans native Shawanda Lewis, smiling from ear to ear.
Rochelle Schramm is a lifetime Saints fan from Bridgeport, Ohio, “I have Pierre Thomas and Shane Graham's even on here,” she says holding her autographed ball.
“My mom surprised me for graduation, this is my graduation present was to come to Saints camp,” says JaVonne Lewis who came all the way from New Jersey.
“Oh, born a Saints fan, everybody born in New Orleans is born with black and gold blood,” says Shawanda Lewis, ecstatic to be holding her autographed flag. She couldn’t thank Brees enough,
“Really appreciate everything Drew has done for our city; just him being our quarterback and everything he's done with Coach Peyton and the team has lifted the spirit of the city.”
The weather was great Friday afternoon, the fans were excited, the team looked eager to get started, and they'll be back at it again Saturday morning.
