SHADY SPRING – Residents of southern Raleigh County may see a change in the home insurance rates with the establishment of a new fire station.
Ghent Volunteer Fire Department Chief, Rick Morrison tells Newswatch the department has recently finalized the purchase of nearly an acre of land to open a new fire station.
The parcel will be off Pluto Road and Route 19 in Shady Spring.
Morrison says the Ghent VFD currently owns the equipment including tanks and engines to be housed at the new location, he says the new addition will be beneficial for the entire community.
“It means growing, serving the community better, better response times to serve some of our area,” says Morrison. But he adds a very important part that will impact your wallet, “(Residents) are also going to see a difference in their insurance premiums.”
Construction is scheduled to begin the in August with a completion date targeted for the spring of 2015.
