BECKLEY – Law enforcement in Raleigh County has targeted 28 locals in a drug-related arrest round-up.
The Beckley-Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force started making arrests today on 28 targets stemming from investigations that began in February.
State Police, Beckley PD, Raleigh Co. Sheriff's Dept., and the FBI are involved.
They are looking specifically for those involved with pills, heroin, crack, and cocaine. And police officials say this crack-down helps in more ways than just getting drugs off the streets.
“The heroin and the pills, these all relate back to all the other crimes,” says State Police Sgt. Donald Bennett, “All the property crimes are drug-based. They want money to buy their drugs with. So by doing a target on the drug problem here in Southern West Virginia we're not only help in that aspect, but all the other crime aspects too.”
As of Tuesday afternoon about half of their targets have been arrested and the others will happen in the coming days.
