BECKLEY – Raleigh County has appointed a new commissioner to fill a vacant seat left by Pat Reed.
Steve Davis will sit on the County Commission until January 1. He was appointed by commissioners Dave Tolliver and Linda Epling to serve the seat left by Reed who resigned at the start of July to take a job in Charleston.
Davis cannot run again for another four years but he will serve until a new commissioner is elected in November, who then takes over in 2015.
“He spent his time and money running for this office. So we felt to keep from giving anyone an advantage in the election that we would appoint him,” says Tolliver.
Davis was excited, and he says he is looking forward to helping Raleigh Co. grow, “I think the Commission is doing a really good job right now and my goal is to help them do a good job for the rest of this year.”
Davis plans to move into his new office in downtown Beckley Wednesday. He was sworn in and made official Tuesday afternoon.
