Multi-vehicle collision in Nicholas Co. sends six people to the hospital

NICHOLAS COUNTY - Six people were injured in a multi-vehicle collision in Nicholas County.

The accidentl happened around 7:45 a.m. Monday on Route 39 East at the Peters Creek intersection, according to officials with the Sheriff’s Department. A Volkswagon Passat reportedly lost control and struck a tractor trailer, then collided head-on with a van carrying four inmates from Mount Olive Prison.

An inmate was flown to Charleston for medical treatment, the driver of the Volkswagon was taken to a Charleston hospital and the van's driver as well as three inmates were transported to Summersville Regional Medical Center, according to officials.

The incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department.
