BECKLEY - Officers with the Beckley Police Department are actively searching for the man they say fatally shot another man Saturday night.

Desean Farley, 22, is wanted for first-degree murder in the shooting death of 48-year-old Chester Hayes, according to authorities. The crime happened at the Willbrian Apartments on Ewart Avenue where Hayes lived. He was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at Raleigh General Hospital.

Farley was connected to the crime through evidence and statements from witnesses, according to Det. Morgan Bragg. Police said the shooting stemmed from an argument and was not a random act, but details of the motive are not being released.

"It was at this apartment complex in an area that is highly inhabited," Bragg said. "It put a lot of people at risk. Multiple shots were fired. We found evidence that a high number of shots were fired from the location."

Farley is considered armed and dangerous and is possibly carrying a handgun. His last known address is listed as 308 Burgess Street, but he is also known to frequent the Willbrian Apartments and several other areas in Beckley.

He is described as a black male, 5-foot-9 and 190 pounds. He has multiple tattoos on his chest and arms. Police said Farley has a criminal history.

Anyone with information as to his location is asked to call police at 304-256-1720. Rewards will be offered.
