BECKLEY - A Mercer County man was in a Raleigh County courtroom on Wednesday for sex crime charges.

44 year old Johnnie Ray Champ of Princeton was charged with the felony offense of use of a minor in filming sexually explicit conduct after he requested a sexual encounter with a five year old child, in exchange for $104. The girl was the daughter of a woman who Champ met online. After his arrest, the U.S. Marshals seized Champ’s phone; stemming from evidence found there he was additionally charged with attempt to commit a felony and solicitation of a minor by computer. Defense Counsel attempted to set a bond for champ in Magistrate Steve Massie's Court, but the request was denied and since probable cause has been found in all three charges, the case will be bound over to the Grand Jury. Champ is being held in southern regional jail without bond.
