FAYETTEVILLE - A woman attempting to mount a motorcycle in Fayette County Sunday is recovering from injuries after she fell about 25 feet down a cliff on the other side of the bike.

The Fayetteville Fire Department said it responded to Fayette Station Road in Fayetteville just after 7:30 p.m.

Firefighters loaded the woman into a search basket, onto a backboard and then drove her to a campground to be airlifted. They believe she sustained a broken leg.

Capt. Dennis Milam told WOAY it's an unusual accident. The team usually responds to car collisions and house fires, but they said their training kicks in during any situation.

"We do a lot of going in the Gorge when people fall off rocks," Milam said. "The rock climbers and stuff -- bringing people out of the woods and back up over the rock cliffs and things like that."

The fall happened about 100 yards from the Fayette Station Bridge. It caused traffic delays during the cleanup.
