BLUEFIELD, VA- Bluefield, Virginia and Bluefield, West Virginia are celebrating a unique marriage on Saturday.
The two cities are coming together to celebrate the 90th reunion of Graham, Virginia changing its name to Bluefield. There will be a celebration at Bowen Field starting Saturday at noon. There will be food, music and activities followed by an actual wedding at six. Marie Blackwell talked about the history behind why the Virginia city changed its name 90 years ago.
"The railroad had come into the area and business was becoming in Bluefield, West Virginia, so Graham wanted to re-name their city in their town and they named it Bluefield, Virginia as our sister city and they wanted to give a nod to the booming industry and that was going on in the area," said Blackwell.
The event tomorrow is open to the public with organizers hoping for a solid turnout.
