THURMOND - Want to learn what life was
like in one of the New River Gorge's most renowned towns?
National Park Service rangers and
Operation Lifesaver are hosting Thurmond’s Railroad Day on Saturday, July 19
from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to explore the historic railroad town and learn safety
tips for rail crossings.
Operation Lifesaver is a nationwide
organization that aims to raise awareness and improve public safety about
highway-rail grade crossing and tracks. The Thurmond Performance Team is also
partnering to sponsor the event.
Organizers said the day also features
historic walking tours and the chance to get your picture taken on a historic
railroad handcart while wearing a railroad hat.
