BECKLEY - A library on wheels continues to make its way around Raleigh County throughout the summer months to get people of all ages reading.

One of the Raleigh County Bookmobile drivers, Robert Poole, said he loves his job. Raleigh County has 2 book mobiles that pay visits to elderly communities, day care centers, summer school programs, apartment complexes and more, bringing the joy of reading to your neighborhood.

These buses have shelves stocked with reading materials for all ages, categorized by grade or reading level. Anyone with a library card can check out books from the Bookmobile and return or renew them once the Bookmobile makes another round to their location. It keeps books in the hands of children and also to people who don’t have a means of transportation.

"This keeps literacy on the up rise. In fact, it's proven fact that throughout the U.S. that the counties that have bookmobiles have better literacy rates in their schools,” said Poole.

Poole said the Bookmobile has been making its rounds in Raleigh County for more than 20 years.
