Bark to get a dog park

BECKLEY – Raleigh County is in the finals to win a $100,000 grant to build a brand new dog park.

Beckley is currently in seventh place in the “Bark for your Park” contest, and it needs at least fourth to win the money. The top four cities will win $25,000 and the city with the most votes gets 100 grand.

The contest will last until the end of July so there is still time to make up ground. You can vote once a day at, but assistant manager at PetSafe, Ashley Williams says the best time to make a move is heading into the weekends.

“Go to the PetSafe Facebook page on Friday and they give you a hint and then you go to the PetSafe website and answer a question, and they let you vote seven times instead of once.”

Why is this so vital for Beckley? “It seems like every Friday we fall further behind,” says Williams.

The dog park will be built on land near the Beckley soccer complex
