BECKLEY – Relay for Life in Raleigh County is ready to go this weekend and they have set the fundraising bar high.
Relay for Lifers are looking to raise $110,000 this year, hoping to surpass last year's total by almost $20,000.
Organizers are preparing for rain but the show must go on this Friday at 6 p.m. at Crossroads Mall in Beckley.
The Relay is currently at $50,000 and officials say the economy is hurting donations. But they still believe the goal can be met, and it's important for how many people it can help.
“Leukemia, to advanced-stage prostate cancer, to rare forms of brain cancer, we've had several families with prostate cancer, skin cancer, so it affects everyone,” says spokesperson Pat Davis, “If you haven't had it or someone in your family has not had it, great, I hope it stays that way. But the chances are that you will.”
There will be activities and games for survivors and their families, and Davis says it's a great time for a great cause.
