BECKLEY - Hurricane Arthur didn't impact West Virginia, but Raleigh County's emergency services department want you to remember that it's important to care for your pets in the case of a major storm.

Animals are also affected by disasters. The likelihood that animals will survive an emergency depends largely on the owners' planning.

That includes assembling an emergency supply kit and developing a pet-care buddy system.

Emergency personnel say avoid leaving your pets behind. They want residents to plan in advance for shelter alternatives that will work for four-legged friends and their owners.
