ALDERSON - A local organization used the holiday's festivities to raise money for this year's scholarship efforts.

The Throttle Throb's Car Club held a car show in Alderson as part of the holiday fun. Car owners registered for a spot on the lawn and participants from the community voted for the 'classiest' car. Winners received a trophy, but organizers said the real winners are high school students who receive scholarships from the club. Proceeds from this event and others go towards the scholarship efforts in Greenbrier County. President of the club Ron Mess said the group has retired teachers who know how important education is.

Mess said, "we feel that we have to get these kids educated. They're our future so we love to give scholarships to the kids that have graduated so it works out great. Since we started, we've given out over $53,000 in scholarship money."

All proceeds from the July 4th event will go towards scholarships for high school graduates at Greenbrier East and Greenbrier West High Schools.
