Fire station loses credentials

MABSCOTT – A Raleigh County community is currently without its local fire department.

The Mabscott Volunteer Fire Department has closed its doors until paperwork can be filed to have a certified chief.

Mayor Wayne Houck says state regulators have shut down the fire department due to current Chief Daryl Bailey's failure to maintain his emergency credentials.

Newswatch spoke with Bailey who wished not to appear on camera, but he believes his credentials are up to date and the state has made an error.

The Mayor hopes the issues can be resolved by the end of the week.

The fire department has appointed an interim chief in hopes it will speed up the process, however the station remains closed as of Wednesday.
