BECKLEY – Raleigh County schools have a new leader and his first day went off without a hitch.

David Price is the new Raleigh County Schools Superintendent and his term starts today.

Price takes over for Jim Brown who announced his resignation in March. Price served as assistant Superintendent under Brown for two years and worked with him over the last several months to make the transition smooth.

In his first official day he met with directors to begin planning for the upcoming school year and he says plans for the future are bright.

“Improve our graduation rate and reduce our dropout rate in the schools. It's also to engage students in their learning in the most efficient and effective way through the use of technology and providing them with opportunities.”

Price says priority No. 1 and the best piece of advice is to remember: Kids first.
