West Virginia natural resource officers are taking part in operation dry water this weekend.
The program is a national initiative aimed at stopping impaired boaters. Local officers say intoxicated drivers are the cause of most boating accidents in the area. Local officers are expected to patrol the water during the evening hours tonight. The program is an effort between the state, the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and the US Coast Guard.
"Every state is doing it. It's just to increase patrols to go out looking for people who are driving while intoxicated, driving their boats while intoxicated" said Dennis Feazell
Operation dry water runs through tomorrow evening.
