BECKLEY - Groups of performers competing in the Beckley version of Dancing With The Stars hope to raise as much money as possible for the United Way of Southern West Virginia.
One of the biggest United Way fundraisers is still a ways off, but dancers have been practicing and fundraising already. A team consisting of Stacy Fama Horton and Jerry Forster aim to raise breast cancer awareness while supporting the United Way. Horton is a two year Breast Cancer survivor who is doing her part to give back to the United Way. The pair said they will hold fundraisers of their own to raise money before the big dance off in September. All proceeds from these events will go to the United Way to be distributed to local charities
"All the agencies they support; young to old, boys and girls, the WRC, food, shelter, clothing...it's a great cause. I'm happy to help in any way I can,” said Forster.
"We enjoy dancing, we wanted to have an event for other people to come and dance too and have a good time. But all the proceeds, the silent auction, everything goes to the United Way so we're excited for that,” said Horton.
The Forster-Horton team said they will be holding a 'night of dancing' fundraiser on July 19th for anyone who wants to come out and dance along with the stars and help support this cause.
