PRINCETON, W.Va. (AP) - Authorities
say two Mercer County inmates were injured in separate attacks by fellow
prisoners in a holding cell.
Assistant prosecutor Janet Williamson
tells media outlets that 23-year-old Cassidy Byrd of Bluefield was at the Mercer
County Courthouse for a preliminary hearing when he was attacked Monday.
Fifty-year-old James Irvin was scheduled to appear in court Monday for the
setting of a trial date.
Both inmates were taken to a Princeton
hospital for treatment. Their conditions weren't immediately available.

Both men face charges involving crimes
Byrd is charged with the death of a
child by a parent, custodian or guardian by abuse. Irving faces multiple counts
of sexual assault and sexual abuse.
