BECKLEY - West Virginia celebrated its 151st birthday on Friday and Tamarack hosted a celebration as the state adds another year to its history.

Known for being 'the best of West Virginia' Tamarack was able to show off its local flare as they honor the creation of the Mountain State. Stonewall Jackson came from back in time to tell West Virginia's rich history while serving birthday cake. Local artists performed and show off their talents, offering hand made and home made art to those shopping at Tamarack for the holiday. Tamarack also celebrated it's 18th year in business on Friday as well.
A lifelong West Virginian, Joe Brouse, said, "I have lived here my entire life. I think the way of life is very accommodating to me but also it's one of the most beautiful states in the entire country."

Stephen Cassle, the Stonewall Jackson impersonator, said, "I've had no desire to move out of West Virginia to see more opportunity because I like it here and it's because I'm proud of it....but it's the people here that  make this state better than anywhere else."

Those in attendance at Friday's festivities said they are proud of their state and all of its success over the years.
