BECKLEY – The health sciences field is expanding in Raleigh County with a university's latest addition.
UC-Beckley has been approved for an Associate Degree in Nursing program. The University has been working to get qualified since the beginning of the year, and the state granted permission for the program this week.
President, Dr. Jerry Forster says they can accept 15 students in August when the first classes will begin, and another 15 in January. Night and evening classes will be offered and the courses can be completed in just two years.
Dr. Forster says the program will allow students to get a full-certification as a registered nurse.
“When you complete this, you do graduation with a two-year Associate Degree from University of Charleston and you then are able to take the RN exam. So you can achieve the registered nursing certification by completing our program.”
Foreter says hospitals in this area are excited and ready for the new nurses.
