BEAVER - Hospice of Southern West Virginia reached out to grieving children through counseling and play at a summer camp.
Camp Hope is a free camp for children who have experienced loss over the last year. Hospice spokesperson Josh Jones said children handle grief very differently from adults and need special attention during these hard times. Campers here have lost grandparents, parents or friends at this young age and are now being counseled through the loss. Campers said they are grateful they do not have to go through this process alone.
One camper, Ireland O’Sullivan, referenced her new friends; "they're going through what I'm going through, grieving and it's just, I like that it's not just me here, it's everyone else here and I made a few friends. I like it."
Volunteers with Hospice said they are trying to grow Camp Hope every year.
