BECKLEY - The Raleigh County Humane Society is taking on the dog days of summer by urging the adoption of man's best friend.
Adoption Counselor Joyce Stover at the animal shelter in Beckley said they have so many dogs and cats that need to be adopted. This summer's featured dog is named is Delilah. Delilah has been at the shelter for almost a year and needs a good home. Stover said due neglect and abuse from a previous owner, Delilah will need to be worked with before someone can take her out of the shelter permanently. Delilah and the other animals at the shelter need love and attention, and the Humane Society workers need to free up some space to take in new animals.
"That's all were asking is to give this dog the love and compassion that it needs and just to come in and work with her. Most people think she's vicious and she's not, it's just what she's used to. She just needs a good home and just be loved again and be able to be trusting again,” said Stover.
Stover reminds all animal owners to get their pets spayed and neutered to help decrease the over population at local shelters.
