Probable cause found for Bluefield man accused of killing neighbor

PRINCETON - Probable cause was found for a Bluefield man accused of fatally shooting his neighbor.

Trayvon Strange, 20, appeared before Magistrate James Dent on Wednesday morning for a preliminary hearing, according to Mercer County court officials.

Strange was arrested for murder for allegedly shooting Steven Rhodes in the head after a reported altercation on April 21 at a Lewis Street apartment building. Police said Rhodes died in Charleston Area Medical Center on May 3.

Strange’s case is being sent to Mercer County Circuit Court and the date for his next appearance has not been scheduled, according to court officials. He is in Southern Regional Jail on $100,000 bond.
