FAYETTEVILLE – A former Fayette County teacher avoids jail after being found guilty of battery.

Kathleen Wade of Hico is sentenced to a $200 fine today in Magistrate court.

Wade was facing up to 2 years in jail for a conviction of two counts of battery. She was found guilty in May of hitting students on two separate occasions.

Prosecuting attorney Brian Parsons told Magistrate Leonard Bickford today he doesn't believe Wade deserved jail time, and Bickford agreed, saying, "I think she's suffered enough."

The former Fayetteville Elementary kindergarten teacher has since retired from instructing.
