FAYETTEVILLE - The Fayette County School Board will appoint an Interim Superintendent next month to temporarily fill the position's vacancy.
Keith Butcher has resigned as Fayette County School Superintendent to take a job in Nicholas County. At a meeting last Wednesday the current Associate Superintendent, Serena Starcher, was appointed to fill take the seat as Interim Superintendent until the West Virginia School Superintendent and Board of Education can find a long term replacement. This change will take effect in July and Starcher said she does not anticipate a new hire to take more than 6 months. Starcher said she enjoys the work she does for Fayette County Schools, but does not desire to take on the work permanently.
"I love Fayette County, I've been here for 7 years now and I'm committed to the school system. So anything I can do to help move Fayette County forward to the return of local control hopefully, I'm happy to do that,” said Starcher.
Starcher will take her role as Interim Superintendent of Fayette County Schools beginning July 1st of this year.
