KEGLEY - A man is dead following an
officer-involved shooting in Mercer County, according to State Police.
First Sergeant J. C. Powers said
Timothy Hill was fatally shot by Senior Trooper B. D. Gillespie Thursday night
after Hill began fighting him.
Powers said the incident began when
Gillespie's wife discovered three men in their driveway tampering with their
personal vehicle and Gillespie's cruiser. The suspects fled and the trooper
began looking for them in his uniform and cruiser.
Gillespie eventually found them walking about a quarter
mile from his residence, according to Powers. Hill reportedly became
belligerent and non-compliant during questioning, and the other two suspects
left when Hill became combative.
Gillespie sprayed Hill with pepper spray and struck him
with a baton, according to Powers. The two fell to the ground and Hill got on
top of Gillespie when a nearby resident went to help the trooper. All three
rolled into a deep culvert, where Hill reportedly attempted to disarm Gillespie
before Gillespie got control of his gun and shot Hill twice.
The incident is under investigation.
