TAZEWELL - The Tazewell County Schools assistant superintendent is now the county's new head of schools.
Christine Kinser will take on the role of superintendent.
Officials said the county school board met in executive session Monday to consider appointing a new division superintendent. The board then returned to open session and voted unanimously to authorize Board Chairman David Woodard and Board Attorney Alan McGraw to enter into a contract employing Kinser as superintendent.
In May, Dr. Michaelene Meyer resigned as superintendent effective at the end of the school year, after the school board had informed her in March that they wanted the opportunity to make their own selection for the position. Meyer had been superintendent since July 2013.
