BECKLEY- A summer basketball camp started on Monday, but that doesn't mean it’s not too late to sign up your children for athletic camps through the YMCA.

The YMCA of Southern West Virginia hosts the Ron Kidd Basketball Camp and 2 weeks of soccer camps throughout the summer to keep kids involved in sports after school lets out. Dan Vass, Sports and Recreation Director, said the camps have been split up into separate age group and still have openings. Parents only need to fill out the application and their child can participate in these fun and constructive activities. The athletics help kids interact and even form some friendships.

"It's nice for them to be able to come out here and still be able to socialize with their friends and make new friends because this is not just one school this is a combination of all schools. They come in and meet new kids and also it just gives them something to do during the day,” said Vass.

Parents and guardians can sign up their children for athletic camps throughout the summer.
