BECKLEY - Memorial Day weekend is filled with friends, food and fun...but also with frustration for anyone driving.

Officials with the State Police are reminding everyone traveling on this long weekend to use caution while having your fun. Holidays means travel, and travel means traffic. State Police said as vehicles on the roadway increase, so do accidents. Drivers should practice caution while traveling and be sure to use a sober driver after leaving any Memorial Day parties. Troopers said they will have more units on the roadway this weekend to ensure everyone's safety.

"People traveling for the holidays, long weekends, you just have to watch your speed, a lot of extra traffic on the roadway. Allow plenty of following distance between you and other vehicles, just be aware of your surroundings and drive safely,” said Trooper First Class H.D. Stone.

Law enforcement reminded all drivers to refrain from using your cell phones while operating a vehicle to ensure the safety of everyone on the roadway.
