FAYETTEVILLE – A police chief from Kanawha County is sentenced in Fayette County Court for threatening to kill a man.

Police Chief Aaron Roop from Cedar Grove is fined $50 in front of Magistrate Leonard Bickford Wednesday.

Roop, 31, was arrested in February stemming from an incident in the parking lot of a Kroger in Smithers.

According to police, Roop confronted a man, brandished a weapon, and threatened to slice his throat. The victim and two witnesses say Roop was in uniform at the time.

Roop denied the allegations and according to Bickfords office, pled no contest to assault charges in court.

In addition to the $50 fine, Roop owes $160 in court costs.
