A local college is collecting cell phones to help American soldiers overseas.
Bluefield State College is taking part in phone for soldiers for the first time this year. The national charity started back in 2004 by teenagers Robbie and Brittany Bergquist. Each donated cell phone turns into five dollars for a calling card for soldiers overseas to use. Bluefield State College admission counselor Billy Stone is hopeful that they'll be successful with the program.
"Our goal is to collect no less than 200 within the first two months. That's a conservative goal. That's just based on different types of collection situations in the area."
Stone says they plan to run the program through the first week in September.
