MOUNT HOPE - A community garden plans to host its kickoff event May 17th, but organizers said they've already started planting

Jean Evansmore not only  runs Du Bois on Main, but has organized the creation of this community garden project for the residents of Mount Hope. Evansmore said she has received supplies from previous community gardens in Montgomery and has already put some of them to good use. Volunteer efforts are making this project possible and an official sign has been designed for the donated piece of land.

Evansmore said she knows the garden will provide fresh food, but has the potential to give these people much more than that. ”My vision for this is to get people working together. It really fits in with the mission of what Du Bois on Main is all about. We want people working together, older people and younger people working together. They can learn from each other,” said Evansmore.

The kickoff event will take place this Saturday from 1-3 at the community garden, located diagonally across the street from Du Bois on Main.
