PRINCETON - The work of a Good Samaritan leads to a drug arrest in Mercer County.
Princeton Police Chief J.W. Howell tells Newswatch Shawn Gillespie is charged with possession of an estimated $12 -15,000 worth of heroin and $14,000 in cash after he fled the scene of an accident on Mercer Street Monday afternoon.
Howell said a witness saw Gillespie hit a parked car around 4:30pm. The witness followed Gillespie to Andrew Car Rental and called 911.
When police arrived they say they saw Gillespie removing items from the rental car and placing them in another vehicle. After speaking to Gillespie and charging him with leaving the scene of an accident police determined he was impaired, he was arrested and his vehicle was searched, that’s when they found the drugs and money.
Gillespie is charged with possession with intent to deliver. He’s in Southern Regional Jail on a $50,000 bond.
Howell wishes to acknowledge the work of Lt. T.A. Gray and Officers J.S. Faris and C.L. Mullins for their work.
