County Commission Meeting over Animal Control Officer

FAYETTEVILLE- An animal control officer, recently accused of inhumanly euthanizing of a dog is still employed by Fayette County and certain residents are up in arms.

A group of animal right's activists brought up this incident to the Fayette County Commission in a meeting on Friday, but did not see the results they were hoping for. Animal Control Official, Russell Parker, is technically employed by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department. Due to this, the commission cannot handle the issue, cannot fire this employee and cannot charge him with any crime. The New River Humane Society and the Fayette County Commission came to an agreement that better policies, procedures and guidelines need to be put in place for the position of dog warden.
