Local post offices are taking part in a national event to help stop hunger.
the Campbell Soup Company and the National Association of Letter Carriers are teaming up for the 22nd annual stamp out hunger food drive. People are encouraged to leave sturdy bags of non-perishable food items next to their mailbox prior to mail pickup on Saturday. It is estimated that 49 million Americans live in homes considered food insecure. Local post offices are taking part to help make an impact in the community.
"Tomorrow is our 22nd annual food drive. It's an annual event we do every year, collect food for the local food banks and pantries for underprivileged families" said Rich Acord.
Last year, more than 74-million pounds of food were acquired nationally as part of the drive.
