TAZEWELL - The Superintendent of
Tazewell County Schools announced her resignation.
School officials said Dr. Michaelene Meyer
will resign effective at the end of the school year.
Officials said the School Board
informed her in March that they wanted the opportunity to make their own
selection for the position, but not because of her performance. Meyer has been
superintendent since July 2013.
The board will pay Meyer an amount
equal to her base salary of $120,000 in equal installments during the 2014 to
2015 school year, contribute $50,000 toward the buy-in of two years’ credit in
the Virginia Retirement System and continue Meyer’s participation in the
board-sponsored health insurance plan until she obtains other employment where
she is eligible for health insurance coverage.
