TAZEWELL - A father and son are each facing a class-one misdemeanor charge after allegedly spray painting rocks along a roadside in Tazewell County.

Paul Donald Cruey, 38, of Cedar Blue and Nathan Allen Laney, 18, of Thompson Valley, are each charged with one count of vandalism, according to Sheriff Brian Hieatt.

Hieatt said his deputies received calls about suspicious cars in the Cove community on April 26. Officers responded and reportedly found Cruey and Laney, as well as several rocks along the roadside that had been spray painted and vandalized.

Officers then forced the two suspects to leave the area, according to Hieatt. Authorities pursued what charges to take against the men, took out warrants on Friday and served the warrants on Saturday.

"We have such beautiful communities throughout Tazewell County and we take the act of someone trying to destroy it very seriously,” said Hieatt.

Cruey and Laney each face up to twelve months in jail and/or up to $2,500 dollars in fines, according to Hietatt. The two suspects are scheduled to appear in general district court in June.
