MOUNT GAY - An elderly woman died Sunday morning after flames tore through her Logan County home.
Firefighters identified the victim as 57-year-old Mary Bryant.
The blaze began at a mobile home on South Joe Alley Road in Mount Gay. Firefighters said Bryant was the only person in the home when the fire broke out.
It appears to have started in the middle of the trailer, according to investigators. They also said there were no working smoke detectors inside the home.
"Check your smoke alarms," Chief Scott Beckett said. "Make sure you got smoke alarms in your bedrooms, in your kitchens and all areas -- all floors of your house. They're inexpensive, and they definitely do save lives."
West Virginia State Fire Marshals think Bryant and her dog feel asleep in the bedroom after forgetting to turn off the stove.
