Soldiers from a nearby military police company will officially leave the state today.
The 30 soldiers you met yesterday from the 863rd military police company based in Glen Jean deployed this afternoon for a final destination of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Soldiers spent time with their families and loved ones before readying themselves to leave. Sergeant Dennis Gregory says that it's tough to leave your life behind.
"At first when i was a single soldier and you're basically just saying goodbye to your immediate family, your mother, your brother and sister but as you grow older, you have children and it tends to be tougher to be away from home, especially when they're young children but its something you have to bare, carry and drive through to get the mission done."
The soldiers will head to Fort Bliss in Texas for mobilization training before deploying for Guantanamo Bay.
