BECKLEY – Day two at the annual Raleigh County business show opens its doors to the public.

The 21st annual Business Show sponsored by WOAY-TV continues Friday. More than 80 West Virginia businesses and organizations of all kinds were represented.

Locals filled the armory collecting trinkets and winning raffle prizes. Some folks were there to check out how the city of Beckley is expanding, others were in it for the fierce and heated competition.

“(It) seems like Beckley is a place that people are starting new business. You see them popping up all the time,” said local Cindy Parker.

Edith Mabes won the jalapeno eating contest, downing 13 peppers in just a couple of minutes.

“It was okay, but my mouth is on fire after it.”

Mabes says she’s never done a competition like that before, but she says she may consider doing more.

The eating contests are over, but the show will continue Friday until 7 p.m. at the convention center.
