WELCH – A tradition rooted in the justice system continues today in McDowell County.
The 18th annual Law Day welcomed nearly 200 students to the courtroom in Welch.
With this being an election year and the polls currently open, the theme of "Every Vote Counts" struck a chord with students looking to expand their minds on the law.
Law Day in McDowell County involves more than 10 schools and students create posters and powerpoints, write essays, and even sing songs.
Judge Booker Stephens says Law Day is important to him, and he's already looking forward to next year.
“I just knew that we have the best and the longest-running. And it's because we get the cooperation from so many people to do this.”
President Dwight Eisenhower first proclaimed law day in 1958. The celebration began this year on April 18.
