ALEXANDRIA, Va. - A local superintendent was re-elected to a three-year term with a national school administrator group.
Mercer County Schools Superintendent Deborah S. Akers will serve another term on the executive committee of the School Superintendents Association, according to officials. The 21-member executive committee represents each region of the country.
Akers joined the committee two years ago when she was elected to fill a vacancy. She has been a member of the association since 2001 and was named West Virginia Superintendent of the Year in 2003.
"I am honored by the opportunity to represent West Virginia and work with a national organization that is dedicated to serving school system leaders throughout the country as we work to advance the quality of education for our students," said Akers.
