BLUEFIELD - A fire official said a train is the likely cause of six fires that broke out along Norfolk Southern Railways's mainline in Mercer County.

The fires happened Sunday afternoon along the tracks between Bluefield and Ingleside. Firefighters from three area volunteer fire apartments and the West Virginia Division of Forestry fought the fires. The Green Valley-Glenwood Fire Department chief believes a passing train ignited the fires. He says four fires were extinguished and two were under control.
