A Beckley sex offender wanted by the West Virginia Department of Corrections and State Police was arrested in Detroit, Michigan.
Law enforcement agencies in West Virginia
and Michigan teamed up to locate and apprehend Christopher Lee Preston, 35,
according to officials with the U.S. Marshals Service. Preston has previous
convictions of narcotics trafficking and a sex offense involving a minor. He
was wanted after warrants were issued by the Raleigh County Circuit Court for
violation of parole and failure to update his sex offender registry.
Preston fled the area and the case was
turned over to the U.S. Marshals C.U.F.F.E.D. Task Force, according to
officials. Information later surfaced that Preston and has girlfriend had fled
to Detroit and the U.S. Marshals Task Force in Michigan was contacted.
Preston is being held in Michigan
awaiting to return to West Virginia to face his charges, according to officials.
