BECKLEY – A new round of Ford's are rolling off the assembly line and heading towards Raleigh County.
The Fayette County Sheriff's Office is adding five cruisers to its fleet in the coming months after the Raleigh Co. Commission approves the bid.
The Commission says it has to replace a batch of cars every year to keep the deputies safe and patrolling in reliable vehicles.
The Sheriff's Office received five new cruisers just three weeks ago after a back-log at the Ford plant delayed last year's delivery, but this round will take some time to arrive.
“Once the vehicles get over 100, 110, 115,000 miles we try to take them off the road,” says Commissioner Dave Tolliver, “We want, obviously, the safest vehicles we can for our deputies to drive.”
Commissioners hope this new round of cruisers will be loaded up with lights, sirens, and radios and be on the road within 6 months.
