K9 Officer and Dog of the Year awarded

BECKLEY- A police officer and his four-legged partner in crime are awarded by the West Virginia Police Canine Association.


Corporal Jamie Blume of the Beckley Police Department and his dual purpose K9 Ciro are the winners of the 2013-2014 ‘Officer and K9 of the Year Award.’ Blume is the third Beckley officer to win this award, and the Beckley Police Department is the only department in the state to have three active K9 handlers as winners.


For the 2013 year, Blume and Ciro had a total of 478 documented deployments resulting in the seizure of $38,000.00 worth of narcotics. The K9 Association said, “Blume is extremely committed to the K9 program and always adheres to the highest level of professionalism.”
