OAKVALE - Law enforcement officials who cited two Mercer County brothers for staging cockfights said they seized six injured roosters and more than 150 birds.

Police said they cited Stacey Brown, 43, and Gilbert Brown, 45, for hosting an illegal venture. Three others were cited for attending the cockfight.

The weekend bust was near Oakvale. Cockfighting materials such as spurs were also confiscated. The injured birds suffered from punctures and gashes.

Chicken coops at the Mercer County Animal Shelter are reportedly under construction to house the rescued birds.
