UPDATE: Police continue search for Summers County shooting suspect

HINTON – Police continue to search for a suspect in a Summers County shooting.

It happened near an elementary school in Hinton around 8:45 p.m. Sunday on Cross Street.

A trail of blood could be seen on the sidewalk along Main Street.

The victim was airlifted to Charleston Hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound to his backside. His injuries are not life-threatening.

Locals reacted to the news Monday; they say they heard the gunshots but didn't think much of it at the time.

“I was playing ball over there with my friends, and heard two gunshots,” says Steven Bay.

“Next thing you know, a car comes up and you hear some people -- and you see like four cop cars coming through Hinton and they were everywhere.”

UPDATE 1: 4/13/14, 9:20 a.m.

HINTON - A man was airlifted to the hospital in Charleston following a shooting in Hinton.

911 dispatchers said the shooting happened at 8:45 p.m. Sunday on Cross Street.

Police Chief Derek Snavely said the victim reported that a large pickup truck drove by and someone in the truck shot him. The victim was hit once in the buttocks and the bullet also went through his thigh.

Snavely said the victim's injuries are not life-threatening. Police are still following leads in their investigation.

HINTON - Police in Hinton are on the scene of a shooting on Cross Street.

Summers County dispatchers said it happened at 8:45 p.m. One person was shot and transported to the hospital. 

Authorities are unsure if it was a drive-by.
